David Watson was a contemporary of Michael Cassidy’s at Cambridge University and emerged to become one of England’s most inspiring evangelists, rectors, and teachers on renewal. David, Michael and Michael Green enjoyed periodic times of meeting to reflect on how the Church could come into renewal and be more effective in evangelism. Michael always felt that Watson and Green brought together in a consummately balanced way the commitments of biblical faithfulness, Holy Spirit renewal, and effective evangelism. David’s books I Believe in Evangelism, Discipleship, and I Believe in the Church greatly blessed Michael, and most particularly Fear No Evil which David wrote while he was dying of cancer. Michael said to him once, “Most writers show the Church how to live, but you are being allowed the astounding privilege via a very public dying process of showing believers how to die.” He was an amazing man.
