Dr Jim Houston, one of the founders of Regent College in Vancouver, Canada, was a great encourager and inspirer to Michael Cassidy and the African Enterprise team in the arenas of spirituality, apologetics, organisational health and organisational change and transition. The team always remembered his deep writings and his wonderful capacity for friendship. In 1999 when Michael was on sabbatical in Canada, Jim enabled him to have a reading and writing four-week stay at Regent. He also enabled Michael to meet and draw on assorted scholars in the college such as James Packer, Judith McBride, Charles Ringma and others. Michael feels much indebted to Jim. One of Jim’s last counsels to Michael was, “Spend your last years mentoring people. Your most effective contribution should be to give to others what you didn’t get yourself. What you most feel the need of, give now to others.”
